Starscapes Home Based Business Opportunities & Cosmic Ceiling Murals

Thursday, August 28th, 2008

It’s summer.

You are lying together in a lovely meadow, surrounded by majestic mountains peaks. A warm, gentle breeze brings the distant chirping of crickets to wake you…as the day descends into darkness. As you both awaken, your eyes get larger, your mouth opens and looking up…You are surprised as you discover the most beautiful, starry sky imaginable!

Thousands of stars gently glowing in the night. And look! There is a shooting star! isn’t that the constellation Orion? Yes! And there is Pegasus the flying horse! You see the princess Andromeda, the North Star and much more…The beautiful Milky Way is simply exquisite as it stretches out high overhead.

Everyone Loves Starscapes!

It is a simple, yet effective method of applying phosphorescent (Glow-In-The-dark) stars etc on any ceilings or walls.
The painting is invisible during the day…so it will not interfere with any decorating scheme. At night or when the lights are turned off…
The result is astonishing!
It appears that the ceiling has been removed and what you see above you is the most incredible starry sky imaginable!
Not just any nighttime sky…
But a crystal clear evening , high atop a mountain valley, above the clouds!
Thousands of stars are visible and the depth perception completes the illusion.

Why wish for the moon…When you can have the stars?!

Drug Allergy 101 – What You Absolutely Need to Know

Wednesday, August 27th, 2008

Introduction
Due to increase in the population that is having impaired immunity and also as there is an increasing pool of aged population because of the ever-lowering death rates, the incidence of allergies is on rise.

Definition
Drug allergy is an immunologically mediated reaction to a drug, which is quite different from its pharmacodynamic profile. It is entirely unrelated to its dosage. It is sometimes also called drug hypersensitivity.

Types
There are many different types of drug allergies but broadly there are two different types: a) Humoral
It is further subdivided into type I, type II and type III based on the type of cells involved.
b) Cellular

Diagnosis
Most commonly the signs and symptoms are redness, itching, rashes, swelling and runny nose. These symptoms occur from within few minutes to few hours. Whatever the symptoms, it is best to consult your doctor as soon as possible because these may be signs of a severe and even fatal reaction. One of the severe reactions is anaphylaxis. It is not necessary that if a person did not get allergy from a drug previously, he wont get it this time. Usually drugs from same group should not be taken if a reaction has occurred from a drug. The drugs most commonly implicated in drug allergies are penicillin, cephalosporins, sulfa drugs , anti convulsants, aspirin and insulin.

Management
a) Treatment
The first and foremost thing is to consult your doctor and if possible allergy specialist for he would be able to determine two things: first, the allergen and secondly the cause of the allergy. Finally when there has already been a reaction, then to treat this, there are certain medicines such as Elidel, Zyrtec, Flonase and Allegra.
Elidel helps in itching and rashes. It is a new and safe drug, which comes in a cream form.

Zyrtec is another safe drug. Because of its less likelihood of drowsiness as compared to the other members of its group, it has received good patient compliance. Besides being used for seasonal rhinitis it is also used for runny nose in drug allergy.
Flonase is another drug which although being steroidal is non-habit forming. It relieves the patients of stuffy nose because of congestion. It can also be used in children.
Allegra has similar use as zyrtec although it is even less sedating.

b) Prevention
It is best said that to manage in the best way any drug allergy is to stay away from the allergen that is the drug.

Further research
There are certain drugs such as xolair, which are still in their incipient stage, and not much of data is available

Would Greater Competition in Gaming Notebooks Be Beneficial for Us

Wednesday, August 27th, 2008

Not so long a go it looked like gaming laptop computers were exclusively obtainable from certain resellers and they were generally built to order. They were tiny volume sellers and big revenue generating notebooks. Certainly I could positively say everyone wanted one though. Everyone reckoned they were the best laptop computers and rightly so. They most likely were not massive sellers though because I reckon most of us buy laptop computers that we can easily afford. As the big computer manufacturers recognize the potential revenues in gaming laptops, the business is shifting.

Gaming laptops are commonly not affordable by people and large companies know they can exploit the massive profit margins even more with their bulk buying. This would be one of the few money generating lines they have as they make nothing on many others because of the massive competition. I am pretty confident that people would buy laptop computers if marketed to everybody by these giant manufacturers. In my view this could extremely damage littler retailers if they do not differentiate themselves. In my point of view the big manufacturers will dictate the market trends. I think the ignorant automatically feel secure by buying from a brand they are familiar with.

The buzz being created regarding the new brand name gaming laptop computers is making consumer see them as being the best laptop computers in history. I guess that local resellers may yet have a chance. This is an enormous sales point that has to be mentioned. Educated in the technology, these sort of people are very clued up on what details to check for. when choosing performance and looks, these people usually favour the former.

All the changes are very positive from the consumer’s position. I could imagine a few price wars going on in this niche later on. Who is to predict what will take place. I am actually not that certain. Whether notebook prices will be reduced overall is another topic but the best laptop computers are typically pricey. We will discover what we can look forward to from the gaming notebook markets large players.

10 Things To Do When Business Slows Down Over The Holidays

Tuesday, August 26th, 2008

I’m sure you’ve seen it happen every year: your business slows down during predictable times, like the summer vacation months or year-end holidays. For the self-employed who rely upon steady cash flow, this can be a disconcerting time. Should you just take a vacation until things naturally pick up again? Or should you try to find the needle-in-the-haystack business that might be out there during slow times?

This year, vow to be different! Instead of languishing in no-business-never-land, get off your butt and do something to build the foundation of your business so that natural business cycles don’t affect you too deeply:

  1. Clean your office. Go through all the piles of papers and magazines that have been sitting around and get rid of them once and for all. Remember the office organizing mantra: do it, ditch it or delegate it. File all your papers, dust and vacuum your office. Reorganize your desk and your office so that you can find everything you need in 60 seconds or less.
  2. Take a mini-vacation from work. Walk away from your office and enjoy a day or two of renewal and relaxation. Go to a day spa. Take a weekend retreat. Go for a walk in the local park. Breathe.
  3. Get ready for tax season. If your business slows down during December, no worries! Use that time to prepare your tax files so that you can whiz through tax season (it’s coming sooner than you expect!). Tally business-related mileage for year. Estimate your last tax payment for the current year (many self-employed people make quarterly estimated tax payments; the final payment is usually due on January 15). Send your final invoices for the current year.
  4. If the slow time falls around the holidays, use them to your advantage. Get into the holiday spirit with your clients by mailing holiday cards and gifts to them. Make specially-discounted holiday offers to clients/customers. Offer them gift certificates that they can give to their family and friends for your services and products.
  5. Do your accounting. Enter all revenue and expenses into your recordkeeping system. Balance your checkbook.
  6. Become goal-oriented. Take this down-time to look at your current goals, to see how you’re doing so far and to write some new goals for the next 12 months. Create an updated marketing plan and budget. Make sure your budget includes a cash reserve to cover you during slow business times. Even if this business slow time falls mid-year, you can still spend time planning for the next 12-24 months.
  7. Go back to school. List the topics you’d like to study, the classes you’d like to take, or the books you’d like to read, to keep you up-to-date with your industry and business skills. Use your quiet business times to read, study and add to your intelligence pool.
  8. Get some personal chores done. Slow business times are ideal to schedule your annual dental and eye exams. It’s also a great time to clean out the attic, garage or basement. Remember, a strong personal foundation helps to propel your business forward.
  9. Go shopping. No, not for personal items (though that’s always fun!), but for business items. Have you been putting off buying a new PC? Now’s the time to research what’s out there and determine your next computer purchase. Is your office chair uncomfortable? Spend some time at office furniture stores “butt-testing” for a quality office chair that will support you properly. Stock up your office supplies. Buy some music CDs to play in your office to inspire you.
  10. Spend time with family and friends. When business is busy, it’s easy to sequester yourself away to get all that work done. Now that business is slow, come out of your cocoon and visit with family and friends. They’ve been wondering where you’ve disappeared to!

As you can see, slow business times can be used productively to prepare you for the next burst of business coming your way. Renew your business, your office, your Self, and create a firm foundation for the busy business days ahead! Always ask yourself, “How can I use these days wisely?”

Natural Relief for Arthritis

Saturday, August 23rd, 2008

Many arthritis sufferers do not like the idea of conventional medicine as a means of treating their ailment. They want natural arthritis relief.

There are those who claim that, if a pill comes from ingredients from a plant, it is therefore “natural” and suitable for human consumption. They ignore the fact that extracts of plants and herbs are chemicals – and some chemicals can kill!

Prescription medicines have undergone numerous tests, following rigid procedures until there is evidence that any drug or treatment really does work. Most natural products have not undergone such testing.

Many so-called “quack” remedies fall in the “natural” category; their acceptance depends on the fact that, for some unknown reason, the pain of arthritis tends to flare up and then subside. Frequently the symptoms subside while the patient is taking a particular “miracle cure” and the arthritis sufferer believes he or she is cured. However, it is not uncommon for the symptoms to return, worse than ever. The fact is, virtually any new treatment, effective or not, often seems to help at first, simply because the sufferer wants it to so desperately.

Willow Bark is an example of how “natural” remedies can gain their reputation. Willow Bark is used in treating arthritis but its’ effect is a result of the salicylates or everyday aspirin it contains. Devil’s Claw is also used to treat arthritis – and it is an analgesic (pain killer)that makes people consider it a “natural” remedy.

A product prepared from freeze-dried extract of green-lipped New Zealand mussels was touted as being effective in relieving the painful swelling and stiffness of arthritis; a variety of gold-based compounds make up a variety of drugs which temporarily banish the painful symptoms of arthritis; relief from arthritic pain is sought by many, especially sportsmen, wearing magnetic bracelets. Does it matter if these products actually work – or if the individuals just believe they do?

Actually it does matter: many of the untested products can cause serious side-effects – especially over the long term.

And what of our diets? Numerous theories have come and gone, including a “No Nightshade” diet et which eliminates members of the nightshade family of plants. Another theory “advised sufferers of rheumatoid arthritis to eat like the Eskimos!” Current advice follows along the lines of that given for sufferers of heart problems: eat lots of fish, cut back on animal fats, include plenty of fruits and vegetables. Experiment with eliminating dairy products. Does it make a difference in joint pain or stiffness?

Some of the most natural ways of dealing with arthritis may be just plain common sense: losing excess weight, mild exercise, reasonable rest, using moist and local heat to give the joint flexibility.

Poker Strategy in the Online Space

Friday, August 22nd, 2008

How does one tell a poker player’s strategy when playing online? You are not able to read body language or hear tone of voice. All you see is card and chip images on your screen.

There is a way to tell how a player is doing in online poker. All you need to do is watch and observe each hand on they play. A bet, a raise, or even a simple check could tell you what you need to know about that specific poker player.

When you see a player constantly check, this could mean they are being a cautious poker player. Sometimes a player will check making you think they have nothing, and then suddenly raise after you have unloaded your chips. You may even encounter an online poker player that constantly raises.

The poker player that constantly raises could be bluffing, taking a risk in this situation may help you to win that hand. There are also those that take too long to choose what they want to do. These are sometimes people with slow connections, those that may not know, or contemplating too long on what to do.

In cases where the players take too long, it is always good at that time to weigh your options and think about what you need to do. Online poker can have a set pattern with players. All you need to do is watch and play.

How to Find a Drug Rehab in Florida?

Tuesday, August 19th, 2008

When you’re in need, the quickest way is the best: if you put “drug rehab in Florida” in your search engine, the first page it finds will be the right one. There you’ll find all the information you need, including addresses, contact information as well as some number and explanations to how they are going to help drug addicts.

Just be warned that there are two kinds of treatments: “inpatient” and “outpatient”. Unlike you probably think, both of them should be attended for a long time (the longer the better), the difference is elsewhere. “Inpatient” one requires patients to move to a rehab center, while “outpatient” allows them “onsite” drug rehab. In Florida there are plenty of treatments of both kinds – as far as I know the first ones are used to cure more serious cases, while the second is usually just prophylactics.

Detox: a necessary step in drug rehab programs.

Whichever kind of treatment you choose, detox will be the first step in your drug rehab. Florida is no exception here: at all treatment centers patients have to go through the detox. There are three stages of it:

(1) Medical, when your body gets clear of narcotic. The process is supervised by doctors to ensure the safety of your health. When this stage ends, you may be sure that the most painful phase is behind you and you’re ready to go to the next stage:

(2) Physical detox. When you’re no longer poisoned, the time comes to build up your ruined body. In this stage of drug rehab the most important person is your nutritionist, who helps you to create the diet that will suit your needs. It ends at the moment when your body is healthy. The only remaining problem is your psyche.

(3) Emotional detox. Here comes the last, the least painful, but the most important part: curing your emotional addiction. Every drug rehab in Florida offers you some counseling in the process. It doesn’t really matter what exactly they do. All of it works as long as you COMPLETE THE PROCESS. After three-four months of therapy your addiction is no more as long as you don’t start it again – and that’s why you need this stage. You have started to use drugs for some reasons, haven’t you?

Cultural Insights – Karla Darocas Talks About Spain – Men, Women, Family, Church, Even Pets

Sunday, August 17th, 2008

Of course you know by now that I have a true fascination for Spanish language and culture and Spain continues to one of my favourite destinations. Spain is a fascinating country, a modern Western European country, anchored in a long history that was shaped by many different cultures, first and foremost the Ancient Romans and the Moors.

This contrast between the modern and the traditional has always fascinated me and I thought I’d ask a local to give me a bit of an idea of what Spanish life and culture is really like today. So here is Karla, my expatriate friend from Ontario, providing us with her own personal and frank insights about life in Spain:

Hi Karla, nice to talk to you again and thanks for the opportunity to give us further insights into life in Spain.

1. Machismo is a Spanish term and most Latin countries are known for their male-dominated attitudes. Does machismo still exist in Spain and if so, how does it manifest itself? What is the role of modern women in Spain, what opportunities and hurdles do they face? What is today’s relationship between men and women in Spain?

Machismo is a problem in Spain. The current government is taking drastic steps to bring about solutions. Modern women have lots of options – if they are educated… however, there is an entire generation of women – who didn’t get an education. Education is at the root of domestic problems all over the world – not just in Spain.

2. Last year you launched a “Stop domestic violence campaign” through your Women in Business Club – www.wibc-spain.com. Please tell us a bit about the background of that campaign and what is involved.

Women who have moved to my area were not aware of the domestic problems of their newly adopted country. In reality I find that most people who move to Spain don’t have any clue about the culture, history, politics – nothing. Any way, our local government had set up a Women’s Shelter and was running an aggressive program. The Shelter needed help to survive finanicially. I set up a club of women to help these women. While we were fundraising we also raised awareness.

3. You once made an observation that pets are treated very poorly in Spain. Please comment on that.

These problems stem from the same root – no education. Animals are not domesticated by most Spaniards. They don’t see animals as “pets”. There is a primitive attitude towards animals. The don’t believe that an animal can have a spirit, hence they treat them without respect.

This is not all of Spain, but the parts of Spain were life has been hard. Spain has been through a lot over the past years, and the people have had to socially reform very rapidly. There are many in the city centers who have adjusted to a peace time lifestyle while others in rural areas have not.

4. From what I understand, the role of the family is very important in Spain. How does it compare to family life in North America?

Families in Spain – well – I think they are just as dysfunctional as any modern family anywhere in the world. I haven’t come across a “normal” Spanish family yet.

5. Spain used to be a very religious country. What is the role of the Catholic Church today?

I have no idea what is the role of the Church anymore. They don’t seem to be getting their way – if that is what you mean. Same sex marriages are going to be approved by the new government, and already 10 day divorces are available. The Church has revoked a bit, but not much. I guess they will have to undergo reforms – like the rest of Spain – in order to stay in the EU.

Thank you, Karla, for your sharing your candid viewpoints with us.
