Blepheroplasty Costs
Monday, August 31st, 2009When it comes to cosmetic surgery such as blepheroplasty, whether you are fortunate enough to have health insurance coverage that will actually cover you or a new government administration finally acknowledges health care as a human right, you’ll still be paying out of pocket. The reason is that in most cases, blepheroplasty is considered elective surgery; although it’s nice to look young and energetic, chances are your continued good health is not dependent upon whether or not you have an eyelid lift.
There is one case in which the costs of blepheroplasty might be covered in whole or part however, and that is if drooping eyelids are actually interfering with your good eyesight. Some conditions in fact can cause vision problems, in which case you would be entitled to some coverage.
This said, the costs associated with blepheroplasty, like any surgery, can vary a great deal from one region of the country to another and can depend on several factors such as the needs of the individual patient and the extent of the surgery required.
Currently, costs for blepheroplasty in the US range from $2000 to $8000. It is at the higher end of this range out toward the coasts, particularly in the Los Angeles and San Francisco Bay areas as well as New York City and Boston, and substantially lower here in the Midwest. The main reason: lower overhead costs, which can be considerable in major metropolitan regions. We at PPSKC are thus able to pass some of that reduced cost on to our patients.
Other factors affecting the cost of blepheroplasty are whether or not two or all four lids are being operated on; surgeon’s fees, the anesthesiologist and the charges for use of the surgical facility. Assuming the patient is having all four eyelids done, a surgeon’s fee would average about $3,000, while the anesthesiologist’s fee would be around $800; fee for the use of the surgical facility may run as much as $700, for a total of $4500. This can be higher if your blepheroplasty is done in combination with other procedures, such as a face lift, the cost would of course be higher.
There are several financing options available for those who are unable to come up with the entire cost at one time; our business office can advise you as to what programs may be available to you.
